Privacy policy

Scenic Rim Retaining Wall Builders Pty Ltd (ABN 18 700 749 935) builds concrete sleeper retaining walls across the Scenic Rim, Logan, Ipswich, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. This policy explains how we handle the personal information you give us.

We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

What we collect

We collect the information we need to quote and carry out retaining wall work. That is usually your name, phone number, email address, the address of the property, the details of the job, meaning what you want built, what is there now, rough sizes and access, anything else you tell us, and photographs of the site, taken when we quote and while we build.

If you use the quote form, your name, phone number and email are saved when you submit the first step, before the rest of the form is finished. If you book a call, we collect a time along with your contact details, suburb and job type.

We also collect some technical information automatically when you visit the site, such as your device and browser, the pages you view and your approximate location, and where your visit came from, including the ad, campaign or search term. Your IP address is used to stop automated spam on our forms, and it is also sent to our analytics and advertising providers as described under Cookies, analytics and advertising below. We do not keep it as a record ourselves, but our hosting, analytics and advertising providers may hold it in their logs for a period.

We do not ask for sensitive information such as health or government identifiers, and you should not send it to us.

Why we collect it

We use your information to answer your enquiry, quote and carry out the work, invoice you, keep the records we are required to keep for tax, licensing, insurance and warranty purposes, follow up after the job, and measure which pages and ads bring us enquiries.

Marketing

If you have asked us for a quote or had work done, we may send you marketing about our retaining wall work by email or SMS. This includes asking you for a review after the job.

Every message includes a way to opt out. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to a text, using the unsubscribe link in an email, or telling us. We will still contact you about a job that is underway.

Who we disclose it to

We do not sell personal information. We disclose it to:

• the software providers we use to run the business, including website hosting, our customer database, email and text messaging, online booking, accounting and analytics and advertising tools
• suppliers, contractors, engineers and councils where a job needs them, limited to what they need
• our accountant, lawyer or insurer where we need their advice
• anyone we are required to disclose it to by law

Overseas disclosure

Some of the providers we use, including our customer database, messaging, analytics and advertising tools, store and process information outside Australia, including in the United States.

We use established providers, but we cannot guarantee that overseas laws will protect your information the way Australian law does, and you may not be able to take a complaint about an overseas provider to an Australian court or regulator.

By sending us an enquiry, booking a call or giving us your details over the phone, you consent to us disclosing your information to these providers on that basis. Australian Privacy Principle 8.1 does not apply to that disclosure. These are the systems we run the business on, and contacting us another way does not avoid them, so if you would rather your information was not handled this way, please do not send it to us.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

This site uses Google Analytics to measure how people use it. Google Analytics sets cookies and sends usage information to Google, which may store it overseas.

When we advertise, the site may also use advertising tags, including Google Ads and the Meta pixel, which record when a visit or an enquiry came from an ad and may be used to show our ads to people who have visited the site. Those platforms handle that information under their own privacy policies.

When you send us an enquiry, we also send a record of that enquiry to Meta from our own server so the enquiry can be credited to the ad it came from. Your name, phone number, email address, suburb, state and country, and our own reference number for you, are converted into a one-way code before they leave us, so Meta receives the code rather than the details themselves, and uses it to match the enquiry to an account it already holds. Some of what we send is not coded, because Meta needs it as it is to recognise the ad click and to report on it: your IP address, the browser you are using, Meta's own cookie identifiers and ad click identifier, and the suburb, the job type and the address of the page the form was sent from. We send this only for people who have submitted the form. We do not send it about anyone who has only read the site.

You can control cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using Google's opt-out browser add-on. The site still works with cookies blocked.

Photographs of completed work

We photograph the walls we build and use those photographs in our marketing. They are identified by suburb rather than street address. If you have a question or a concern about a photograph of work at your property, please contact us using the details below.

Storing and securing your information

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold, including password protected systems and limiting access to the people who need it. No system is completely secure. We keep your information for as long as we need it for the purposes above and to meet our legal obligations, and then delete or de-identify it.

If we become aware of a data breach likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required.

Access and correction

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Contact us using the details below and we will respond within 30 days. If we cannot give you access, we will tell you why.

Complaints

If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, contact us and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
